H.R. No. 1160 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The A. J. Moore Academy has been recognized as a Distinguished Academy by the National Academy Foundation; and WHEREAS, The NAF is a network of more than 500 high school academies that offer career-focused courses combined with a traditional academic curriculum; created through a partnership between business professionals and educational leaders, the NAF seeks to further the academic achievement of its students and prepare them for college and successful careers; the foundation annually serves an estimated 50,000 students, primarily in urban school districts, and posts a graduation rate of more than 90 percent; and WHEREAS, A magnet high school in the Waco Independent School District, the A. J. Moore Academy has a current enrollment of approximately 715 students and offers in-depth instruction in engineering, environmental technology, finance, health care, hospitality and tourism, and information technology; and WHEREAS, One of only seven schools nationwide to receive the Distinguished Academy designation, the A. J. Moore Academy earned this prestigious title by completing a process that included a comprehensive self-assessment to determine how well it implements the NAF model; this was followed by an NAF review of the results and a site visit by members of the research and evaluation team; the NAF review determined that the school exhibited best practices in several areas, including curriculum and instruction, advisory board, academy development, and work-based learning; and WHEREAS, The dedicated administrators and teachers of the A. J. Moore Academy have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to providing their students with skills that will help them build a bright and prosperous future, and their outstanding efforts are indeed worthy of recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the A. J. Moore Academy on being named a Distinguished Academy and extend to its administrators, teachers, and students sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
