No. 1175 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Peggy Darlene Carriker of Arlington, who passed away on March 14, 2011, at the age of 80; and WHEREAS, Born in Decatur on February 23, 1931, the former Darlene Power was the daughter of Reba Harris and Jesse Power, and a descendant of a pioneer family that helped settle Tarrant County; she spent much of her childhood on a farm near Springtown and attended public schools there before moving to Fort Worth; at the age of 15, she left school to work for the telephone company as a switchboard operator; and WHEREAS, This charming, sophisticated lady was joined in matrimony to George Wright in 1950 and became the proud mother of three children, Gary, Ron, and Becky; she had the good fortune to find love a second time, and she married Dr. Ed Carriker in 1978; Mrs. Carriker was employed in clerical and bookkeeping positions for many years; and WHEREAS, A woman of faith, Mrs. Carriker was baptized as a young girl in a Wise County creek; she loved to dance and often amused people by proclaiming that she was a Baptist with Methodist feet; in her leisure hours, she enjoyed gardening, creating silk flower arrangements, and spending time with her loved ones; she also delighted in travel and was a talented cook and seamstress; and WHEREAS, Darlene Carriker enjoyed a life that was rich in the intangibles that matter most, and she brought much joy to those who were privileged to share in her love and friendship; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Peggy Darlene Carriker and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her children, Gary Wright and his wife, Janis, Ron Wright and his wife, Susan, and Becky Wright; to her six grandchildren; to her nine great-grandchildren; to her stepdaughters, Dee and Kay Carriker; to her sisters, Margaret Ann Carter and Arnette Scheeler; to her brothers, Jesse Power, Jr., and Percy Power; to Pat Jacoby and her husband, Tom; and to her many other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Peggy Darlene Carriker.
