 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Susie's South Forty Confections, Inc., in Midland is
 marking its 20th anniversary in 2011; and
 WHEREAS, Founded by Susie Hitchcock-Hall, Susie's South
 Forty began in 1991 in a small space south of Midland; its first
 product was Texas pecan toffee, followed by such candies as
 pralines, fudge, and caramels; and
 WHEREAS, The company moved into a new facility in 2002 and
 celebrated by making a Texas-sized piece of toffee that weighed in
 at nearly 3,000 pounds, setting a Guinness World Record; after the
 festivities, the toffee was donated to local soup kitchens and
 other nonprofit organizations; and
 WHEREAS, Today, Susie's South Forty makes 21 varieties of
 candy for sale at shops in Midland and Odessa; in addition, the firm
 has a wholesale show space in the Dallas Market Center and sends
 packages to mail order customers in all 50 states; the company has
 been featured on the Food Network program Unwrapped, and it was
 named one of the "Fastest-Growing Basket Businesses in America" by
 Festivities Publications; at the Austin Fancy Foods Show, Susie's
 South Forty won Best Fudge and Best Frozen Dessert awards; and
 WHEREAS, Proprietor Susie Hitchcock-Hall has earned Master
 Confectioner Emeritus status from Retail Confectioners
 International, and her company is a certified Woman-Owned Business;
 giving generously of her time and talents, Ms. Hitchcock-Hall has
 served on dozens of boards and has chaired the United Way Capital
 Campaign, the Midland Chamber of Commerce, and the Midland
 Manufacturers Association; and
 WHEREAS, Over the past two decades, Susie's South Forty has
 made valuable contributions to the economic vitality of the Midland
 community while building a national reputation for excellence; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Susie's South Forty Confections,
 Inc., on its 20th anniversary and extend to Susie Hitchcock-Hall
 and her staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
 further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the company as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
