No. 1196 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The wisdom and experience of centenarians are a source of enduring inspiration, and it is indeed a pleasure to honor Evelyn Fife of Terrell, who joined this elite group of Texans on April 4, 2011; and WHEREAS, A native of the Lone Star State, Ms. Fife was born in Terrell in 1911 to Jewell and H. Lee Simpson; she graduated from the local high school in 1928, and through the years, she was employed by the Southern Poultry Processing Plant and Texas Poultry and Egg; and WHEREAS, Devoted to her loved ones, she provided warm, generous care for her mother and her sister and brother-in-law, Mabel and Robert Phillips, at the end of their lives; and WHEREAS, Ms. Fife is a woman of deep and abiding religious faith; for more than a decade, she drew on her knowledge as a Bible scholar to teach the Crusaders Sunday School Class at First Christian Church; she is also a longtime member of the Christian Women's Fellowship Bible Study, which she has served in every office; her efforts were recently recognized when the annual yearbook was dedicated in her honor; in addition to her work with her church, she enjoys reading and cooking; and WHEREAS, Blessed with the affection of many admirers, Evelyn Fife has gracefully reached the century mark and continues to enrich the lives of all who are fortunate enough to know her; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Evelyn Fife on the joyous occasion of her 100th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Fife as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
