No. 1242 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Dan Clifton is retiring as scout executive of the Longhorn Council of the Boy Scouts of America in 2011, drawing to a close nearly four decades of outstanding service with the organization; and WHEREAS, Mr. Clifton studied business at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville before joining the Boy Scouts in the early 1970s; in 1995, he was appointed as scout executive of the Longhorn Council of the Boy Scouts, one of the largest scouting councils in the United States with some 28,000 scouts in Fort Worth and North Texas; and WHEREAS, Under his leadership, the Longhorn Council has expanded program opportunities and facilities and solidified its position as home to the Texas High Adventure Base; Mr. Clifton has overseen the efforts of 12,000 scout masters and other volunteers, and during his tenure, more than 7,400 scouts have attained the rank of Eagle Scout; and WHEREAS, Dan Clifton's dedication, professionalism, and commitment to the ideals of the Boy Scouts of America have greatly benefited countless young people and their families, and he may indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent as he embarks on the next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Dan Clifton on his retirement as scout executive of the Longhorn Council of the Boy Scouts of America and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Clifton as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
