No. 1499 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the death of Robert Paul McFarland of Alpine on February 20, 2011, at the age of 89; and WHEREAS, Bob McFarland was born on January 2, 1922, and spent his youth in Eastland County; he worked for the Southwest Peanut Growers Association in Gorman and joined the United States Army to fight for his country during World War II; he and his wife, Myra Jo, enjoyed a rewarding marriage until she passed away, and they raised one daughter, Carla; and WHEREAS, After the war, Mr. McFarland entered The University of Texas at Austin and earned a degree in engineering; he worked for the Robert E. McKee Company on such projects as the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, various Texas Instruments plants, and the First National Bank building in Dallas, which was the tallest building west of the Mississippi River at the time it was built; and WHEREAS, Mr. McFarland moved to Alpine in 1998, where he made many friends, young and old alike, with his humorous storytelling, his fresh-baked cookies, and his fun-loving nature; a sports lover throughout his life, he was a devoted fan of the UT football team and the Dallas Cowboys; and WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to share in the friendship and love of Bob McFarland will always remember him with great tenderness and affection and will fondly recall the happy times they spent in his company; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Robert Paul McFarland and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his daughter, Carla McFarland, and her life partner, John Green; to his grandchildren, Robert and Michelle Williamson; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Bob McFarland.
