H.R. No. 1509 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, In a fitting tribute to a remarkable Texan, Jerry Johnston Andrew was honored at the annual gala luncheon benefiting The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research Foundation and TIRR Family, which took place on March 30, 2011, in Houston; and WHEREAS, Since a 1974 car accident that made her a quadriplegic, Ms. Andrew persevered to raise four daughters and also to assist numerous nonprofit organizations; and WHEREAS, Through the decades, she has remained actively involved in the lives of her children and never allowed her physical limitations to prevent her from attending all of their activities while they were growing up; she is now a proud and active grandmother of seven; and WHEREAS, This tireless volunteer has dedicated thousands of hours to a variety of causes; she has served on the board of TIRR, has been a director of the 100 Club, and is a lifetime vice president of the board of directors of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo; in addition, she has served as president of the Assistance League of Houston and is a member of United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Houston; for her achievements, Ms. Andrew was honored at the UCP Hats Off to Mothers Luncheon in 2005; and WHEREAS, Possessing the will to overcome great adversity, Jerry Johnston Andrew is an inspiration to all who have learned of her experiences, and it is a pleasure to recognize her for her determination and selfless concern for others; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Jerry Johnston Andrew for the well-deserved honor she received from The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research Foundation and TIRR Family and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Andrew as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
