R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Second Annual Cinco de Mayo BBQ Cook-Off and
Fiesta is taking place on May 6 and 7, 2011, in San Juan; and
WHEREAS, Presented by the San Juan Parks and Recreation
Board, the Cinco de Mayo Cook-Off and Fiesta is an International
Barbeque Cookers Association championship event; the occasion
features a festive combination of good music and good eating, with
proceeds underwriting the beneficial work of the San Juan Parks and
Recreation Board as well as scholarships for deserving area
students; and
WHEREAS, Talented barbecue chefs from throughout Texas are
facing off to see who can cook up the tastiest brisket, pork
spareribs, and chicken, with cash prizes going to the first-place
through fifth-place finishers in each category; in addition, the
get-together includes a fajita, beans, and pan de campo
competition, softball, kickball, and basketball tournaments, and
other fun activities; and
WHEREAS, The festival stage is playing host to an outstanding
lineup of talented school groups, authentic Mariachi ensembles, and
more; and
WHEREAS, An exciting time for young and old alike, the Cinco
de Mayo BBQ Cook-Off and Fiesta has become a much-anticipated
gathering for residents of South Texas, and this popular
celebration of Texas-style food and music is indeed deserving of
special recognition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
Legislature hereby commemorate the Second Annual Cinco de Mayo BBQ
Cook-Off and Fiesta and extend sincere best wishes to the event's
participants and organizers for an enjoyable and rewarding
experience.
