 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Suzie Oelschlegel, the head coach of the girls'
 basketball team at MacArthur High School in Irving, received the
 University Interscholastic League Lifetime Achievement Award in
 March 2011, the latest in a long list of well-deserved honors that
 this respected educator has received through the years; and
 WHEREAS, That prestigious commendation was presented at the
 UIL state tournament, during which the MacArthur High Lady
 Cardinals claimed the 5A title; their triumph gave the school its
 first team sport state championship and provided Coach Oelschlegel
 with yet another highlight in an exemplary career; and
 WHEREAS, Suzie Oelschlegel was a high school all-American
 from Odem who went on to letter in both basketball and softball at
 Baylor University; she became a teacher and coach in the Irving
 Independent School District more than 30 years ago, assuming her
 role at MacArthur High in 1986; and
 WHEREAS, With more than 600 victories to her credit, Coach
 Oelschlegel has taken her teams to the state playoffs 14 times, and
 she is a 12-time winner of the District Coach of the Year award; she
 was also named the Dallas Morning News All-Area Coach of the Year
 for the 2010-2011 season and the 2009-2010 Dean Weese Class 5A
 Outstanding Coach of the Year in Texas; and
 WHEREAS, The guidance of this skilled mentor allows her
 athletes to reach their full potential, and many of her players have
 earned notable accolades, including numerous All-Region,
 All-State, and Academic All-State honors as well as being named to
 Texas Association of Basketball Coaches and Texas Girls Coaches
 Association All-Star teams; in addition, two of her students have
 become McDonald's All-Americans, and she has also coached a Parade
 All-American, the Gatorade Texas Player of the Year, the State
 Farm/Women's Basketball Coaches Association National Player of the
 Year, two USA National Team players, and one WNBA professional; and
 WHEREAS, Highly respected by her peers, Coach Oelschlegel has
 served on many committees related to her sport, and she has assisted
 at The University of Texas Advanced Elite Summer Camp and other
 well-known camps run by prominent college coaches; moreover, she
 coached the 4-5A TGCA All-Stars during the summer clinic for 2010
 and has been selected to coach the TABC All-Stars for the 2011
 spring clinic; and
 WHEREAS, Suzie Oelschlegel's basketball expertise and her
 ability to educate and inspire students have allowed her to make a
 positive difference in the lives of hundreds of young people, and
 she is indeed deserving of recognition for her achievements; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby honor Suzie Oelschlegel on her long and
 accomplished career as a high school basketball coach and extend to
 her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Coach Oelschlegel as an expression of high regard by
 the Texas House of Representatives.
