 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The 1936 Texas Centennial Exposition's "Home for the
 Future" in Dallas is celebrating the 75th anniversary of its
 construction in 2011; and
 WHEREAS, Located in the North Oak Cliff neighborhood, the
 "Home for the Future" was built for the 100th anniversary of the
 founding of the Republic of Texas in 1836; costing $15,000, the
 house was billed as the first all-electric home in North America and
 boasted a view of the burgeoning downtown Dallas skyline from a
 second floor deck; and
 WHEREAS, The "Home for the Future" was architecturally
 designed in the manner of such notable Bauhaus and Art Deco Texas
 Centennial Exposition buildings as the Magnolia Lounge and what is
 now the Women's Museum, and General Electric outfitted its rooms
 with many state-of-the-art appliances that it wished to introduce
 to prospective home buyers; and
 WHEREAS, In 1994, Cameron Smith purchased the property and
 has worked to restore many of its original architectural details;
 today a North Oak Cliff landmark, it has been featured in fashion
 shoots, films, and commercial productions; and
 WHEREAS, The "Home for the Future" is an important piece of
 the history of Dallas and a striking example of Art Deco design, and
 it is indeed a pleasure to recognize the house during this milestone
 year; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby commemorate the 75th anniversary of the
 construction of the Texas Centennial Exposition's "Home for the
 Future" and extend to homeowner Cameron Smith sincere best wishes
 for the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. Smith as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
