No. 1612 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the death of Ruth Christine Howes of Dallas on March 21, 2011, at the age of 92; and WHEREAS, Ruth Livengood was born in Quay, Oklahoma, on July 23, 1918, to Christopher and Edith Livengood; as a young woman she married Orin Eastburn Howes, and the couple shared 36 years together before his passing; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Howes was a devoted homemaker, nurturing her three children, Norman, John, and Helen, as they grew; in later years, she worked as a teller and bookkeeper at a bank, and she went on to work for the Department of Labor; and WHEREAS, In retirement, Mrs. Howes enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and pursuing such hobbies as reading, cooking, sewing, and knitting; she was also active in her church and at the local senior center; and WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Ruth Howes will remember the way she touched their lives with her easygoing nature and delightful sense of humor, and she will forever hold a treasured place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Ruth Christine Howes and extend deepest sympathy to the members of her family: to her children, Norman and John Howes and Helen Hurst; to her eight grandchildren, Blake, Matthew, and Jason Howes, Maile Mokulehua, Stacie Keon, Skip and Kevin Porter, and Abbie Melton; to her 16 great-grandchildren, Emma, Therese, Dagmar, Brandon, and Cameron Howes, Hope, Noah, Micah, and Luke Mokulehua, Krista and Michael Keon, Andrew Porter, Joseph and Victoria Torres, and Macie and Porter Melton; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ruth Christine Howes.
