 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Terrell High School senior Chase Beavers has
 distinguished himself in his work as the 2010-2011 governor of the
 Texas-Oklahoma District of Key Club International, and his
 accomplishments are indeed deserving of recognition; and
 WHEREAS, Key Club is a high school organization sponsored by
 Kiwanis International that includes more than 240,000 members in 30
 nations; in addition to furthering the Kiwanis mission of assisting
 children all around the world, members of the Key Club undertake a
 variety of community service projects that allow them to develop
 leadership skills while giving back to their fellow citizens; and
 WHEREAS, In his role as governor, Mr. Beavers helps organize
 the efforts of the 16,500 young people that make up the
 Texas-Oklahoma District; as part of his work, he has helped expand
 the organization, starting 16 new local clubs that include 700
 members; and
 WHEREAS, For his district project, Mr. Beavers organized a
 fund-raising initiative through Alex's Lemonade Stand, in which
 clubs were asked to sell lemonade during the year, with the proceeds
 being donated to fund research into childhood cancer; the project
 was a great success, raising $17,000, well above its goal of
 $10,000; in addition, this resourceful young Texan has provided
 guidance to fellow Key Club members as they worked to support the
 March of Dimes, UNICEF, the Children's Miracle Network, and other
 worthwhile efforts; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Beavers developed his skills as a member of the
 Kiwanis organizations K-Kids and Builders Club, and he has served
 as a captain for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life; in
 addition to his school and volunteer activities, he works part-time
 at Brookshire's Food & Pharmacy and sings in a local choir; and
 WHEREAS, By demonstrating outstanding leadership during his
 tenure as district governor, Chase Beavers has helped Key Club
 International make a positive difference in numerous Texas and
 Oklahoma communities, and the knowledge he has gained through this
 experience will be of great benefit in all of his future endeavors;
 now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby honor Chase Beavers for his achievements as the
 2010-2011 governor of the Texas-Oklahoma District of Key Club
 International and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
 success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. Beavers as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
