 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Amanda Lambert, a senior at Irving High School, has
 been named the recipient of a 2011 Yes I Can! Award from the Council
 for Exceptional Children, which honored all the award winners at a
 ceremony in National Harbor, Maryland, on April 27, 2011; and
 WHEREAS, The CEC is an international professional
 organization of educators that is dedicated to improving the
 quality of life of individuals with exceptionalities; these
 professionals work to ensure that people with disabilities and/or
 gifts and talents receive an effective education and that they are
 able to enjoy meaningful participation in their schools and
 communities; and
 WHEREAS, Each year, the CEC recognizes 27 students with
 disabilities for their outstanding accomplishments; Yes I Can!
 Awards are presented to individuals for their achievements in the
 areas of academics, arts, athletics, community service,
 employment, extracurricular activities, independent living skills,
 self-advocacy, and technology; and
 WHEREAS, Ms. Lambert was honored in the athletics category
 for her work as a student athletic trainer with the Irving High
 sports teams; as a trainer, she assists a certified professional in
 the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic
 injuries; she is also responsible for setting up equipment on the
 sidelines at practices and games; this outstanding young Texan has
 represented her school with dedication and pride, and she has
 received accolades from her fellow trainers for her stellar
 performance; and
 WHEREAS, Ms. Lambert initially learned sign language in order
 to communicate, and she later began occupational therapy to improve
 her verbal, visual, and motor integration skills; her involvement
 as a trainer has helped her continue to become more proficient at
 communication and multitasking; and
 WHEREAS, Through hard work and perseverance, Amanda Lambert
 has excelled as a student athletic trainer and made great strides in
 her personal development, and she is truly deserving of this
 notable award; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Amanda Lambert on receiving a 2011
 Yes I Can! Award from the Council for Exceptional Children and
 extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and
 happiness; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Ms. Lambert as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
