No. 1677 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The Hispanic Heritage Fiesta is taking place October 8, 2011, at the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show Grounds in Mercedes, and the event serves as a showcase for a barbecue contest, music and dance performances, and a range of other activities; and WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Rio Grande Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the fiesta is marking its second year in 2011, and a highlight of the proceedings is the barbecue cook-off sanctioned by the International Barbeque Cookers Association; the competition draws talented pit masters from South Texas and cooking teams from throughout the state to contend for prizes; in addition, the kiddie cook-off provides young chefs with a chance to show off their culinary skills; and WHEREAS, To help celebrate Hispanic culture, the fiesta features live entertainment by folkloric dancers and mariachi and Tejano bands; comedians and rock, jazz, and country musicians are also part of the fun, and attendees can browse arts and crafts exhibits; and WHEREAS, The Hispanic Heritage Fiesta is a favorite destination for motorcycle enthusiasts, and in 2011 these two-wheeled Texans have the opportunity to enjoy a poker run, a bike show, and a bike skills contest; and WHEREAS, With its mix of good company, great eating, and exceptional entertainment, the Hispanic Heritage Fiesta is a popular fall event in the Rio Grande Valley, and it is sure to be a memorable experience for all who attend; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby commemorate the 2011 Hispanic Heritage Fiesta and extend to the organizers and participants sincere best wishes for an enjoyable celebration.
