No. 1679 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Older adults contribute to society in myriad ways, and the Silver Ribbon Community Partners of the Lower Rio Grande Valley works to ensure the well-being of this important population; and WHEREAS, A nonprofit United Way organization, the Silver Ribbon Community Partners provides emergency assistance to elderly and disabled residents of Hidalgo and Starr Counties who have been referred to Adult Protective Services due to abuse, exploitation, neglect, or self-neglect; and WHEREAS, The group is among many that are celebrating Older Americans Month in May 2011 in recognition of the wisdom, perspectives, and experiences that older adults bring to the lives of their loved ones and to the culture at large; and WHEREAS, Coinciding with the observance is a Silver Ribbon Community Partners fund-raiser, "Locked up for the love of an elderly," in which local dignitaries and businesspeople will be charged with being "an awesome member of the community" and receive a warrant for their arrest with bail set at $2,000; and WHEREAS, Dedicated to improving the quality of life for Valley area seniors, the Silver Ribbon Community Partners also promotes understanding and awareness of all that older adults have to offer, and it is indeed fitting to pay tribute to this outstanding endeavor; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby recognize May 2011 as Older Americans Month, honor the Silver Ribbon Community Partners, and extend to all those associated with the organization sincere best wishes for continued success with their important work; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the Silver Ribbon Community Partners as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
