 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Nicholas David Reed has been admitted to the State
 Bar of Texas and is being sworn in as an attorney on May 7, 2011, at
 the State Capitol; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Reed received a doctor of jurisprudence degree
 in 2010 from The University of Texas School of Law, where he served
 as president and parliamentarian of the Texas Law Democrats; he
 also earned a bachelor of arts degree in political science from St.
 Edward's University, graduating summa cum laude in 2006; while at
 St. Edward's, he was a four-time member of the dean's list, and he
 was named the Outstanding Student in Political Science for 2004;
 and
 WHEREAS, This accomplished Texan currently serves as
 legislative director and counsel for State Representative Jessica
 Farrar; in this role, he has earned the respect of his colleagues
 for the dedication, intelligence, and expertise he brings to the
 work of advancing Representative Farrar's legislative agenda; Mr.
 Reed previously held the posts of legislative director for State
 Representative Juan Escobar, from 2006 to 2007, and legislative
 aide for State Representative Vilma Luna, from 2005 to 2006; his
 professional experience also includes service as a research
 assistant with the law firm Hull Henricks & McRae and as a field
 director for the 2006 Shane Sklar congressional campaign; and
 WHEREAS, A native of Houston, Mr. Reed was born on June 24,
 1982; he attributes the success he has experienced in life to the
 love and guidance of his father, Robert Reed, and his mother and
 mentor, the late Marguerite Reed; he has also greatly benefited
 from the support of his aunt and uncle, Stan and Renee Cross, his
 grandparents, Velma Reed and the late Lloyd Reed, the late Elmer
 Denson, and the late Janine Denson, and many dear friends, among
 whom are Kevin E. Carpenter, Andrew Dupuy, Jay and Leslie Maguire,
 Karen Over, Nelson Salinas, Loy Taylor, and Ellis J. Ware; and
 WHEREAS, Nick Reed has chosen to join the legal profession in
 order to be able to work more effectively in behalf of his
 community, a desire inspired by the principles of his religious
 faith; despite the heavy schedule he has maintained for a number of
 years as a result of his work and studies, he has continued to make
 the community a focus of his endeavors, playing an active role in
 the areas of politics, sports, fine arts, and church ministries; he
 is presently a member of the choir of First United Methodist Church
 in Austin, where he contributes his talents as a tenor; and
 WHEREAS, Nicholas David Reed has demonstrated outstanding
 ability, drive, and determination in the pursuit of his goals, and
 as he embarks on an exciting new chapter in his life, he can indeed
 take pride in his achievements; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Nicholas David Reed on being sworn
 in as a licensed attorney in the State of Texas and extend to him
 sincere best wishes for continued success in the years ahead; and,
 be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. Reed as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
