 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Members of the Seminole High School academic team
 have achieved an impressive record of success in University
 Interscholastic League competition in 2011, and their visit to the
 State Capitol on May 10, 2011, presents an ideal opportunity to
 recognize them; and
 WHEREAS, The most comprehensive literary and academic
 competition in the nation, the UIL Academic State Meet includes 23
 high school events; these contests complement the academic
 curriculum, motivating students to acquire higher levels of
 knowledge, confront issues of importance, and think critically; and
 WHEREAS, Competing in UIL District 4, Class 3A, the Seminole
 speech and journalism teams took first place at the regional meet on
 April 16, 2011, and the Seminole team took second place overall with
 160 points, earning the right to compete in the state finals; and
 WHEREAS, Individual state qualifiers include junior Haylee
 Dodson, first in informative speaking, senior Katie Garcia, first
 in news writing, senior Reed Chappell, second in persuasive
 speaking, junior Brooklynn James, second in poetry interpretation,
 junior Jasmine Torres, third in poetry interpretation, and senior
 Savanna Winn, third in prose interpretation; senior Nate Maxwell
 and junior Angela Sims were named to the UIL All-State Honor Crew;
 the team also earned points through the valuable contributions of
 Ms. Garcia, editorial writing and feature writing, senior Jennifer
 Hughes, news writing, junior Tanner Moore, prose, and Ms. Sims,
 prose; and
 WHEREAS, These exceptional students benefited from the
 guidance and encouragement of Danny Stottlemyre and Carol Ann
 Moose, their speech coaches, and Susan Williamson, their journalism
 advisor; and
 WHEREAS, Through their hard work and commitment to
 excellence, the members of the academic team have reached the top
 level of UIL competition, and their accomplishments are a source of
 pride to their school and community; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate the Seminole High School academic
 team for their achievements in 2011 UIL competition and extend to
 them sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
