No. 1786 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Wesley George Dempster is celebrating a significant milestone in his life with his graduation from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, on May 7, 2011; and WHEREAS, The son of Christopher and Cindy Lou Dempster, Wes Dempster was born in Houston and attended Stephen F. Austin High School in Fort Bend County; inspired by his uncle, a retired colonel in the U.S. Air Force, he began exploring his interest in a military career by joining the school's Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps and its award-winning Armed Drill Team and Color Guard; and WHEREAS, Mr. Dempster consistently met and exceeded the demanding standards of The Citadel; during his last three years, he was a member of the elite Cadre Team, helping to train freshmen in physical fitness, inspection preparation, and knowledge of various protocols, and as a junior, he earned the Cadre Leadership Award, which is presented to the team's top three squad sergeants; and WHEREAS, Cadet Dempster went on to earn a position on the Summerall Guards his senior year; members of this renowned silent precision drill platoon are chosen for their physical stamina and drill proficiency and undergo a rigorous physical training and initiation process; Mr. Dempster further distinguished himself through his participation in the Leadership Development Assessment Course at Fort Lewis, Washington, where he was assigned to the Red Lions regiment of the U.S. Army's 32nd Armored Regiment and graduated first in his platoon; and WHEREAS, On the day before his graduation, this patriotic and dedicated young Texan is being commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army, and after reporting to Fort Benning, Georgia, to receive infantry officer and airborne ranger training, he will return to Texas to begin his military career in earnest at Fort Hood; and WHEREAS, A source of great pride to his family, Wesley George Dempster has demonstrated exceptional drive and determination in the pursuit of his goals, and he may indeed reflect on his success at The Citadel with a sense of accomplishment as he embarks on the next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Wesley George Dempster on the occasion of his graduation from The Citadel and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success in all of his endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Dempster as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
