H.R. No. 1960 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Omar Ochoa is reaching a significant milestone in his life with his graduation from The University of Texas School of Law on May 21, 2011; and WHEREAS, Mr. Ochoa has distinguished himself often while working toward his doctor of jurisprudence degree; his team won first place and he took honors for best brief at the 2011 Uvaldo Herrera National Moot Court Competition, sponsored by the Hispanic National Bar Association; he is also the recipient of the Dean's Achievement Award and the Best First-Year Memorandum Award; he has led his fellow students as education chair of the Chicano/Hispanic Law Student Association, and in 2010-2011 he became the first Latino to serve as the editor-in-chief of the Texas Law Review; moreover, he is a member of the Legal Research Board; and WHEREAS, A native of the Rio Grande Valley, Mr. Ochoa graduated from UT-Austin in May 2007 with a bachelor's degree with honors in business and bachelor's degrees in economics and accounting, and he became a master in professional accounting; the first Latino to serve as president of UT Student Government, he was also codirector of the Latino Leadership Council, and he received the Business Honors Outstanding Student Award in 2006 and The University of Texas Outstanding Student Award in 2005; and WHEREAS, Between undergraduate and graduate school, Mr. Ochoa served for a year as a senior financial analyst for General Motors in Detroit; his impressive professional resume further includes work as a summer associate for four Houston law firms and internships with the Texas Solicitor General and Justice David Medina of the Texas Supreme Court; and WHEREAS, In addition, this outstanding young man has had two articles accepted for publication in law journals, and he is also accomplished in the realm of physical fitness and regularly participates in marathon and triathlon competitions; and WHEREAS, The son of Jose M. Ochoa and Lydia H. Ochoa, Omar Ochoa is a source of great pride to his family and community, and he may indeed reflect on his academic career with a sense of accomplishment as he looks forward to the next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Omar Ochoa on his graduation from The University of Texas School of Law and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Ochoa as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
