No. 198 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, After 30 years of dedicated service to his fellow citizens, Tommy Hardy is retiring from his post as the assistant city manager of Grapevine on February 1, 2011; and WHEREAS, Raised in Marlin, Mr. Hardy began his career as an electrician and then became a building inspection official for the City of Terrell; in 1981, he took a similar job in Grapevine, at that time a town of about 12,000 people, and after two years he was promoted to director of community development; and WHEREAS, Mr. Hardy's new position made him a key player in the progress enjoyed by this fast-growing municipality over the past quarter-century; he participated in a major effort that began in 1984 to overhaul the city's land-use master plan and zoning ordinance, which laid the groundwork for Grapevine's boom years; among the significant commercial projects Mr. Hardy helped bring to the city are the Grapevine Mills mall, the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center, the Great Wolf Lodge waterpark and hotel, and eight wineries, as well as the Legoland Discovery Center and Sea Life aquarium that are currently being developed; and WHEREAS, Grapevine is now a city of nearly 52,000 residents, and many local officials credit Mr. Hardy's planning acumen with the community's success; he was named assistant city manager in 2005; and WHEREAS, Retirement will provide Mr. Hardy with additional time to spend with his wife, Patsy, and their family, and he intends to travel and enjoy life to the fullest; and WHEREAS, Known for the foresight and commitment that he brings to all he undertakes, Tommy Hardy has played an instrumental role in making Grapevine the city that it is today, and he may indeed reflect with great pride on his outstanding professional achievements; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Tommy Hardy on the occasion of his retirement as assistant city manager of Grapevine and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Hardy as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
