No. 2196 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, During the 82nd Legislative Session, Valeria Dayer of Irving has ably served her fellow Texans as an intern in the district office of State Representative Linda Harper-Brown; and WHEREAS, Since joining the staff in August 2010, Ms. Dayer has gained firsthand knowledge of the governmental process and experience in a political environment, as well as insight into the issues facing our communities and our state today; and WHEREAS, Ms. Dayer is a student in the School of Legal Studies at Jack E. Singley Academy, where she implemented the first YMCA Youth and Government Club in Irving ISD and went on to serve as its president; the group won fourth place in the mock trial competition at the YMCA Texas Youth and Government District 5 Conference and advanced to the 2011 state competition; moreover, she has been active at her school as a member of the Law Review for three years; and WHEREAS, Ms. Dayer has contributed to her community as a volunteer for the City of Irving's Teen Court; she served as its lead defense attorney for 2010-2011 and earned the Defendant's Choice Award; her other honors include the 2011 Irving YMCA Leadership Award and the 2010 Youth Character Award from the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas; and WHEREAS, This noteworthy young Texan has brought dedication, enthusiasm, and care to her work for House District 105, and it is most fitting to recognize her for a job well done; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby commend Valeria Dayer for her service as an intern in the district office of State Representative Linda Harper-Brown and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success in all her future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Dayer as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
