No. 2269 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The El Paso County Sheriff's Office Special Operations Bureau has contributed significantly to the safety of area residents; and WHEREAS, The bureau focuses investigative resources against individuals and organizations believed to be involved in criminal enterprises, and in fiscal year 2010, its deputies seized more than $5 million worth of narcotics and made over 570 arrests, leading to 367 felony charges and 213 convictions; and WHEREAS, Also during 2010, the bureau's Border Crimes Initiative, which consists of a team of detectives that concentrate on narcotics, burglary, robbery, homicide, and human smuggling, was nominated by the Office of the Governor's Criminal Justice Division to become a nationally recognized program; and WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Commander Gomecindo Lopez, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Special Operations Bureau includes Lieutenant Larry Guerra, Sergeants Christopher Paz and Ryan Urrutia, Detectives Francisco Chavez, Jose Guzman, Benjamin Perales, Jose Rivera, Luis Rodriguez, Joe Williamson, Albert Montoya, John Greer, and Robert Horstman, and Deputies Louis Almonte, George Johnson, Alfredo Tellez, Moises Gutierrez, Robert Torres, and Manuel Marquez; and WHEREAS, The dedicated efforts of the Special Operations Bureau and other local law enforcement agencies have paid off; El Paso was named the safest city in the United States among those with more than 500,000 people in the City Crime Rankings 2010-2011, published by CQ Press; and WHEREAS, Members of the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Special Operations Bureau have excelled in supporting the department's mission to protect the lives and property of area residents, and it is indeed a pleasure to recognize these distinguished law enforcement professionals; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby honor the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Special Operations Bureau for its outstanding contributions to public safety and extend to all those associated with the organization sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the bureau as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
