No. 2339 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Marine Lance Corporal Derek Hernandez of Edinburg suffered an immeasurable loss with the death of this valiant soldier on June 6, 2010, at the age of 20; and WHEREAS, Assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Lance Corporal Hernandez was killed while bravely serving his country in Afghanistan; and WHEREAS, Born on October 17, 1989, to Virginia Reyna and Israel Hernandez, Derek Hernandez graduated from Edinburg High School, where he was a safety with the Bobcats football team; he was active in his church, and today he is remembered with great admiration and affection for his patriotism, humor, and devotion to his loved ones; and WHEREAS, Through his unwavering dedication to duty and honor, Derek Hernandez embodied the highest ideals of the United States armed forces, and his fellow citizens owe him a debt of gratitude that the passage of time can never diminish; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Marine Lance Corporal Derek Hernandez and extend sincere sympathy to his mother, Virginia Reyna, to his father, Israel Hernandez, and to his many other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Lance Corporal Derek Hernandez.
