No. 2362 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The life of a respected business and civic leader in San Antonio drew to a close with the passing of Louis Herbert Stumberg on May 3, 2011, at the age of 87; and WHEREAS, Born in San Antonio on April 17, 1924, Louis Stumberg was the son of Henry and Leonora Stumberg; in 1946, while still in his early 20s, he joined with his father and his brother, Edward, to found Patio Foods; the company enjoyed great success with its frozen Mexican entrees, which were sold nationwide; after the venture was acquired by R.J. Reynolds Tobacco in 1967, Mr. Stumberg became a vice chair of RJR Foods and later held the same post with Del Monte Frozen Foods and Del Monte USA; and WHEREAS, In 1954, he and the former Mary Pat Zachry were joined in marriage, and they enjoyed 57 rewarding years together, raising a family that has since grown to encompass four generations; and WHEREAS, Mr. Stumberg's pursuits in behalf of the community were many; he was a chair and trustee with the United Way and a civilian aide to the Secretary of the Army; a member of the Downtown Rotary Club of San Antonio for 60 years, he held the office of president and was also chair of the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce; his leadership skills were further demonstrated in numerous other roles, including service as the president of the Boy Scouts Alamo Area Council, the mayor of Terrell Hills, and a member of the board of trustees of Trinity University and the board of governors of the Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research; in addition, he was a dedicated congregant and elder of First Presbyterian Church; and WHEREAS, Held in the highest regard by all who knew him, Louis Stumberg dedicated himself to improving the world around him, and he built a life that was remarkably rich in family, friends, and achievements; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Louis Herbert Stumberg and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Mary Pat Zachry Stumberg; to his daughter, Diana Stumberg; to his sons, Herb Stumberg and Eric Stumberg and his wife, Keri; to his grandchildren, Sara Walker and her husband, Lawrence, Catherine Stumberg, and Patrick Stumberg; to his great-grandson, Lawson Walker; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Louis Stumberg.
