 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The softball team of United South High School in
 Laredo enjoyed a successful 2011 season, reaching the University
 Interscholastic League playoffs for the first time in school
 history; and
 WHEREAS, Advancing to the postseason on the strength of a
 16-10 overall record, the 2011 Panthers softball squad tallied the
 most seasonal victories in the team's history, including an 11-7
 record in District 29-5A competition; in addition, United South
 earned a second-place finish at the 2011 Border Olympics, yet
 another school best; and
 WHEREAS, Seven members of the squad garnered postseason
 accolades for their stellar play; Priscilla Ruiz, Brenda Ledezma,
 and Selena Rubio were named to the All-City first team; in the 29-5A
 All-District honors selected by area coaches, Ms. Ruiz was chosen
 as the most outstanding shortstop and Ms. Ledezma as the most
 outstanding outfielder; in addition, Ms. Rubio was selected as a
 first-team pitcher, Jackie Davalos as the first-team third baseman,
 and Janelle Rodriguez as the second-team first baseman, while Kayla
 Rodriguez and Sabrina Sanchez received honorable mention awards;
 and
 WHEREAS, Throughout the season, the Panthers relied on a true
 team effort, with valuable contributions also being made by the
 other members of the roster: Miranda Beltran, Elizabeth Garza,
 Kristina Hernandez, Kassandra Guardiola, Ariana Reyes, Dyani
 Martinez, and Marissa Perez; these determined athletes were guided
 by head coach Diana Perales Isassi, whose leadership inspired the
 players to deliver their maximum effort; and
 WHEREAS, The achievements realized by the Panthers in 2011
 are a source of great pride to their many supporters in the local
 community, and their outstanding performance on the diamond is
 indeed deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate the United South High School
 softball team on its successful season and extend to the team's
 players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for the future;
 and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the Panthers as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
