No. 2403 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A full and productive life drew to a close with the passing of admired Duval County community leader Rene Serrato on January 5, 2011, at the age of 55; and WHEREAS, The son of Emeterio and Diamantina Serrato, Rene Serrato graduated from both Freer High School and The University of Texas, soon becoming employed as a real estate appraiser for the Duval County Appraisal District for 22 years; and WHEREAS, Mr. Serrato was engaged in supporting his community by actively participating in various organizations; he was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where he served as an active member in the Knights of Columbus; he volunteered for Freer Little League and was a basketball coach for the Boys & Girls Club of Alice, Texas; he served as a city council member for the City of Freer, and was a steadfast member of the Beef Master Association; and WHEREAS, Rene Serrato touched many lives and dedicated his life to helping those around him; his accomplishments will help to improve the lives of many in Duval County for countless years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Rene Serrato and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his wife of 24 years, Paula V. Serrato, his two sons, Michael Daniel Serrato and Aaron David Serrato of Freer, Texas; to his sister, Hope Greer if Freer, Texas; his three nieces, Carol Henry, Angie Linguez, Bobbie Guzman; his two nephews, Marty Vela Jr., and Jesus Vela; his three aunts, Carolina Palacios, Virginia Briseno, Lucy Soliz; two uncles, Alonzo Solis, and Daniel Serrato; brother-in-law, Martin Vela of San Diego, Texas; and to his many other cousins, great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Rene Serrato.
