No. 2404 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The late Felipe Victor Ramon played a vital role as a community leader in Starr County for many decades, and his life and legacy are indeed worthy of tribute; and WHEREAS, Mr. Ramon was a devoted student who began his college education at Columbia University and later transferred to the University of Texas at Austin; he graduated in 1942 with a bachelors degree in Latin American Studies; and WHEREAS, Following his graduation, Mr. Ramon served admirably in the United States Army Air Corps as a radio tower operator during World War II, where he was stationed in London, England; he was later honorably discharged for his courageous service to his country; and WHEREAS, Mr. Ramon relocated to Rio Grande City after his term in the military; he successfully established the Piggly Wiggly grocery store, of which he was the proprietor for more than 20 years; Mr. Ramon was active in local real estate development and effectively managed his family's real estate in Laredo, Texas; and WHEREAS, Mr. Ramon was active in local politics; he published the Rio Grande Herald for several years and wrote articles that engaged his community; he earned an award from the Texas State Publishers Association for his hard work and dedication to his community; and WHEREAS, Through his commitment to civic activism, Felipe Victor Ramon had a positive impact on the residents of Rio Grande City, and his dedication to public service will remain a lasting source of inspiration to those who seek to give back to their community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby honors the memory of Felipe Victor Ramon for his extensive public service; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Felipe Victor Ramon.
