 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The DeSoto High School girls' track and field team
 reached the pinnacle of success by winning the 2011 University
 Interscholastic League 5A state championship with an outstanding
 showing at the state meet on May 13 and 14 in Austin; and
 WHEREAS, This determined group of athletes established
 themselves as contenders with their performances in a variety of
 events, including medal-winning efforts by Anna Robinson, who won
 the 5A long jump competition, and Chrishuna Williams, who finished
 third in the 400-meter dash; heading into the final event, the
 1,600-meter relay, DeSoto was trailing both Garland and Mansfield
 Timberview High Schools in the standings; the relay team of Kierra
 Hamilton, Tia' Gamble, Maegan Cown, and Ms. Williams were more than
 up to the challenge, however, as they set a school record in taking
 first place, vaulting the Eagles past their rivals to the state
 crown with a final total of 51 points; and
 WHEREAS, Ably guided by head coach June Villers, the members
 of the DeSoto girls' track and field team have excelled through
 skill, hard work, and an enduring commitment to excellence, and
 they are a source of tremendous pride to their classmates and their
 many supporters in the local community; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate the DeSoto High School girls' track
 and field team on winning the 2011 UIL 5A state championship and
 extend to the team's athletes, coaches, and staff sincere best
 wishes for continued success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
