 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Residents of the Texas Panhandle lost a brave and
 admirable public servant when Elias Macias Jaquez of the Cactus
 Volunteer Fire Department died on April 20, 2011, from injuries
 sustained in the line of duty; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Jaquez and other firefighters were battling a
 wildfire near Dumas on April 9, 2011, when their truck became stuck
 in rough terrain; he suffered third degree burns on more than
 three-fifths of his body and was rushed to a burn center in Lubbock,
 where he later passed away; and
 WHEREAS, Born in 1961 in Cuauhtemoc, Chihuahua, Mexico, Elias
 Jaquez worked for the JBS meat processing company and had been a
 volunteer firefighter for two years; a family man, he was married to
 Josephine Macias and was the proud father of four children, Amanda,
 Sylvia, Micaela, and April, and a grandfather to three
 grandchildren; and
 WHEREAS, More than two dozen Panhandle towns sent fire trucks
 to the funeral mass held for Mr. Jaquez, and firefighters from
 across Texas and as far away as California lined up to pay their
 respects; a benefit fund has been established in his honor at the
 Happy State Bank; and
 WHEREAS, Devoted to the safety and well-being of his fellow
 citizens, Elias Jaquez was committed to his work as a volunteer
 firefighter, and his courageous service and immeasurable sacrifice
 will forever be remembered by all those who knew of him; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Elias Macias Jaquez
 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
 wife, Josephine Macias; to his daughters, Amanda Gambrell and her
 husband, Austin Gambrell, Sylvia Macias and her husband, Javier
 Ramos, Micaela Macias, and April Macias; to his mother, Maria
 DeLaLuz Macias; to his brothers, Francisco Macias Jaquez, Reynaldo
 Macias Jaquez, Juan Macias Jaquez, Jose Luis Macias Jaquez, and
 Humberto Macias Jaquez; to his sister, Rosalia Macias Jaquez; to
 his grandchildren, Adrian Gambrell, Alayna Gambrell, and Esven
 Ramos; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Elias
 Jaquez.
