No. 2566 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, John Edward Carroll of Grand Prairie is celebrating his 76th birthday on June 14, 2011, to the delight of his family and friends; and WHEREAS, A fourth-generation Texan, Mr. Carroll is the son of John James Carroll and Katie Jones Carroll, and he is descended from James Wales Jones, a member of the original 300 families that settled the Lone Star State; Mr. Jones and his brother, Randall, were members of the first law enforcement militia, the precursor of the Texas Rangers, and they were members of the Texas Army; and WHEREAS, Given his notable ancestry and his birth on Flag Day, Mr. Carroll was raised with an appreciation of history, and he earned a bachelor's degree in that subject from The University of Texas at Arlington before completing a master's degree in parks and recreational management at East Texas State University; his love for his Texas heritage led him to become a charter member of the Descendents of Stephen F. Austin's Old Three Hundred, which he has served as president, and this proud Texan also belongs to the Descendents of Former Texas Rangers; and WHEREAS, Learning how to make the jellies, jams, and pickles his mother once made on the family farm in Kingsbury, Mr. Carroll has won numerous ribbons through the years in the creative arts competition at the State Fair of Texas; he continues to enjoy exploring the Lone Star State as well, including "the birthplace of Texas," Washington-on-the-Brazos, in celebration of the 175th anniversary of Texas independence; and WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Carroll enjoys the love and support of his wife of 50 years, Dr. Linda Sue Cole Carroll, their children, Dr. Carl Bruce Carroll, Nanci Lynn Carroll, Sandra Annette Carroll Luke, and Audrea Kaye Carroll Weimer, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; surrounded by this large admiring circle, he indeed has reason to celebrate; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate John James Carroll on his 76th birthday and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Carroll as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
