No. 2628 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, June 30, 2011, marks the 50th wedding anniversary of Billy and Jo McGuyer of Mineola, and this joyous event provides a fitting opportunity to reflect on their memorable journey together as husband and wife; and WHEREAS, Billy Frank McGuyer and the former Lawana Jo Brooks were joined in matrimony in 1961 at a ceremony held in Dallas, the city where they resided for most of their married life; through the years, their family has grown to include two daughters, Elizabeth Dian Morgan and her husband, Greg, and the late Mary Catherine Porter, as well as four grandchildren, Michael Ryan Peterman, Liberty Lane Peterman, Lewis Jean Jett III, and Angela Catherine Porter; and WHEREAS, Mr. McGuyer recently received his 40-year certificate as a certified public accountant; he worked for several independent oil companies, and was employed by independent oilman Buddy Fogelson and his wife, actress Greer Garson, for more than two decades; he also owned and operated a tax preparation business in Mineola; and WHEREAS, A veteran educator, Mrs. McGuyer taught kindergarten and third grade for many years before running her own beauty salon and, later, a formal dress shop; after the couple moved to Mineola in 1993, she opened a prekindergarten school for two years; and WHEREAS, Respected members of their community, Mr. and Mrs. McGuyer are both active in Republican politics; Mr. McGuyer was a party precinct chair for many years while also serving as treasurer of the Wood County Republican Party, and Mrs. McGuyer is a committed member of the Republican Women of Wood County; in addition, she belongs to the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Fannie Marchman Garden Club of Mineola; and WHEREAS, The 50 years of marriage that Mr. and Mrs. McGuyer have shared is eloquent affirmation of the meaning of love and commitment, and their enduring union is an inspiration to all who know them; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Billy and Jo McGuyer on their golden wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. and Mrs. McGuyer as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
