 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Thirteen-year-old Tine Valencic of Colleyville has
 won the 2011 National Geographic Bee, which was held in Washington,
 D.C., on May 24 and 25; and
 WHEREAS, Sponsored by the National Geographic Society, the
 National Geographic Bee helps spark interest in geography among
 students in grades four through eight; every year, thousands of
 young people participate in local and state bees for a chance to
 compete in the national bee, which is moderated by Alex Trebek of
 the television game show Jeopardy! and broadcast nationally on the
 National Geographic Channel and again on PBS; and
 WHEREAS, A seventh-grader at Colleyville Middle School, Tine
 Valencic competed against 53 other semifinalists from across the
 nation; at the end of an unusually tough final round, he triumphed
 at last by correctly answering five tie-breaking questions,
 clinching the contest by naming Sagarmatha National Park as the
 Nepalese park that encompasses the southern reaches of Mount
 Everest; as the national champion, Tine receives a $25,000 college
 scholarship, a lifetime membership in the National Geographic
 Society, and a trip to the Galapagos Islands; and
 WHEREAS, This outstanding young Texan has distinguished
 himself through his discipline, intelligence, and hard work, and he
 is indeed a source of great pride to his family, his community, and
 the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Tine Valencic on winning the 2011
 National Geographic Bee and extend to him sincere best wishes for
 continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. Valencic as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
