R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The members of First United Methodist Church
Richardson are celebrating the 125th anniversary of their church's
founding on June 12, 2011; and
WHEREAS, In 1886, 15 faithful men and women came together to
establish the First Methodist Episcopal Church South; members met
at Cumberland Presbyterian Church until 1898, when the women of the
congregation raised money for an acre of land by selling squares for
an autograph quilt; and
WHEREAS, Today, this notable house of worship serves nearly
6,000 members who support a number of worthwhile initiatives,
including feeding the homeless, building homes with Habitat for
Humanity, and aiding victims of disaster; and
WHEREAS, Countless area residents have looked to First United
Methodist Church Richardson for spiritual enrichment and guidance
through the years, and it is a pleasure to join in honoring the
church at this special time in its history; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
Legislature hereby honor First United Methodist Church Richardson
on the 125th anniversary of its founding and extend to its members
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
