H.R. No. 2683 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The Classical Center at Brandenburg Middle School Honors Band performed at the 2011 Music for All National Festival in Indianapolis on March 17, 2011; and WHEREAS, Recognized as the pinnacle of educational programming for high school instrumental music programs, Music for All draws more than 300,000 people to its events annually; it is one of the most influential music education organizations in the country, and only four middle schools were invited to perform this year at what the former conductor of the United States Air Force Band has called "the epitome of music festivals in America"; and WHEREAS, The Garland Independent School District opened Brandenburg Middle School in 1974, and the school's band program began the same year; over the last decade, band director Kelley Taylor has guided the Classical Center at Brandenburg through a period of major growth and success; the program today includes more than 250 students in grades 6-8, and the young musicians who have participated have brought home numerous awards; and WHEREAS, In attaining the level of musicianship necessary to perform at a national event of this magnitude, the students in the Classical Center at Brandenburg Middle School Honors Band have demonstrated exceptional talent and a steadfast commitment to excellence, and it is indeed a pleasure to recognize them for their achievement; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby recognize the Classical Center at Brandenburg Honors Band for performing at the 2011 Music for All National Festival and extend to the young musicians and their director sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the band as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
