H.R. No. 299 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The Vernon College men's rodeo team proved itself the finest in the country by winning the national championship at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming, in June 2010; and WHEREAS, The Chaparrals claimed the title with outstanding performances from each member of the team; saddle bronc rider Kaleb Asay was the CNFR cochampion and had an excellent score in the short-go competition; Tyler Willis and Patrick Geipel finished in the top eight in bull riding, and Casey Harmon, Joel Schlegel, and Cody Quaney also made important contributions as Vernon amassed 682.5 team points to finish more than 90 points ahead of its closest competitor; and WHEREAS, The 2010 victory marked the fourth national rodeo title for the college and the first since 2003, when the men's and women's teams were both national champions; under the tutelage of coach Bobby Scott, Vernon College has developed one of the top rodeo programs in the U.S., and its achievements are all the more impressive because the team is often competing against larger schools; and WHEREAS, Winning a national championship represents the culmination of countless hours of hard work and an unwavering commitment to excellence, and the members of the Vernon College rodeo team will treasure the memory of this accomplishment for many years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Vernon College Chaparrals men's rodeo team on winning the 2010 national championship at the College National Finals Rodeo and extend best wishes to its members for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
