No. 32 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Mount St. Michael Catholic School in the Oak Cliff community of Dallas is celebrating its 25th anniversary on March 4, 2011; and WHEREAS, An educational apostolate of the Christian Community of God's Delight, MSMCS began as the Prince of Peace Community School in 1986; classes were initially held for preschool through fourth-grade students, and one grade level was added during each of the next four years until the current eighth-grade level was reached; the name was changed to Mount St. Michael Catholic School in 2007; and WHEREAS, The school's Montessori educational program and strong academic standards draw students from across the Metroplex; children from 42 different zip codes and diverse socioeconomic backgrounds attend the school, and enrollment has increased by more than 50 percent in the past four years; and WHEREAS, MSMCS employs a classical curriculum known as the trivium, a three-phased approach that emphasizes grammar, logic, and rhetoric and includes the mandatory study of Latin starting in the first grade; in addition, students have the opportunity to participate in artistic pursuits such as band, art, and dance while also taking part in traditional religious studies; and WHEREAS, Because of the thorough work of MSMCS educators, 100 percent of the school's graduates who have applied have been accepted to the high school of their choice; many alumni are already making their mark on society, including those who are pursuing advanced academic degrees in our nation's colleges or entering holy orders; and WHEREAS, For 25 years, the faculty and staff of Mount St. Michael Catholic School have committed themselves to meeting the educational needs of their students, and the school has played a vital role in helping many young Texans build a bright and prosperous future; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby commemorate the 25th anniversary of Mount St. Michael Catholic School and extend to all those associated with the institution sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
