 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Doug Evans, a much-respected teacher and coach,
 retired from the Sulphur Springs Independent School District on
 January 28, 2011, after 32 years of service; and
 WHEREAS, By the time Doug Evans reached high school, he
 already knew that he wanted to pursue a career in teaching and
 coaching, having been inspired by the educators in his schools;
 after graduating from high school in 1976, he enrolled at East Texas
 State University and received his degree three years later; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Evans completed his student teaching at Sulphur
 Springs Middle School, where he made a favorable impression and was
 hired to teach eighth grade social studies and work as an assistant
 coach; after five years, he was promoted to head coach of the
 football team; and
 WHEREAS, After joining the faculty at the high school, he
 coached basketball and track, and by 1987 he was coaching the golf
 and football teams; he would spend more than two decades with each
 while continuing to teach social studies; and
 WHEREAS, Highly admired by his colleagues and students, Mr.
 Evans was renowned for his engaging style of teaching, and he served
 as a positive influence in the lives of the young people he mentored
 in the classroom and in competition; throughout his career, he
 enjoyed the love and support of his wife, Sharla, and his daughter,
 Kelsey; and
 WHEREAS, Doug Evans helped numerous Sulphur Springs students
 to build a strong foundation for future success, and his record of
 achievement will be remembered and appreciated for years to come;
 now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Doug Evans on his retirement from
 the Sulphur Springs Independent School District and extend to him
 sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. Evans as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
