 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Mentoria Lewis Sherfield retired from the San
 Antonio Independent School District in May 2010, drawing to a close
 a notable career in education that spanned more than three decades;
 and
 WHEREAS, Ms. Sherfield began teaching in Athens, Georgia, and
 she went on to serve in a number of school districts in that state;
 she also taught at the Department of Defense Dependents Schools in
 Germany; in 1989, she joined San Antonio ISD, where she worked at
 the San Antonio Alamo Achievement Center and at Wheatley Middle
 School; for the last nine years of her career she was a valued
 member of the faculty at Stonewall Jackson Davis Middle School,
 where she taught fifth grade; and
 WHEREAS, In addition to her work in the classroom, Ms.
 Sherfield was a mentor and tutor in the after school Net Program,
 and she served as a PTA president for Davis Middle School; she
 further devoted her time to such organizations as the local chapter
 of the NAACP, the B.E.A.T. AIDS Coalition Trust, and the National
 Coalition for 100 Black Women, and she has served as the secretary
 of the board of directors at Emmanuel AME Church; and
 WHEREAS, This esteemed educator received many accolades
 during her career, including being named Classroom Teacher of the
 Year and Delta Woman of the Year; she also received the NAACP
 Excellence in Education Award and the Outstanding Teacher Award
 from the Top Ladies of Distinction; and
 WHEREAS, Known for her caring nature and her unwavering
 commitment to her profession, Mentoria Sherfield touched the lives
 of countless youth, and she may indeed reflect with pride on a
 career well spent; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Mentoria Lewis Sherfield on her
 retirement from the San Antonio Independent School District and
 extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Ms. Sherfield  as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
