H.R. No. 354 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the passing of Minnie Christinia Jones of San Antonio on August 7, 2010, at the age of 100; and WHEREAS, Born in Luling on May 9, 1910, the former Minnie Christinia was the daughter of John and Idella Christinia; she moved to San Antonio with her family in 1918 and finished the eighth grade at the Douglass School; in 1924, she married Lehman Thompson, and they later became the parents of two daughters, Clarice and Annie Lee; after marrying Isiah Jones, she became the mother of another daughter, Sharron; and WHEREAS, This intrepid Texan began working as a dishwasher at the age of 12 or 13, although her small stature required her to stand on a box; she then earned her living as a maid in private homes and at retail establishments and bought her first home by the time she was 21; ever determined to better herself, Mrs. Jones sought a job at Kelly Air Force Base when women became eligible for civil service positions there; she was employed at the base for nearly three decades before her retirement; and WHEREAS, A devoted mother, Mrs. Jones always made time for her children and their friends; she prepared a large and lavish dinner every week after church, while flawlessly dressed in her Sunday best; for more than 75 years, she was a valued member of Mount Zion First Baptist Church, where she set an inspiring example of faith and compassion for others; she also maintained a high standard of style in her attire, continuing to wear high heels even after she was obliged to make use of a walker; and WHEREAS, Minnie Jones overcame life's challenges with grace and steadfast resolve, and she touched many hearts through her kindness; those who were privileged to know her will forever remember her with deep admiration; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Minnie Christinia Jones and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her daughters, Clarice Jackson, Annie Lee Thompson, and Sharron White; to her four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and to her many other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Minnie Jones.
