 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Members of the San Antonio Chapter of The Links,
 Incorporated celebrated the 50th anniversary of their chapter's
 founding on December 10, 2010; and
 WHEREAS, An international, not-for-profit corporation, The
 Links, Incorporated was established in Philadelphia in 1946 to
 encourage social responsibility and the development of civic,
 educational, and cultural programs to enrich the lives of African
 Americans and other persons of African ancestry; the San Antonio
 chapter was founded on December 10, 1960, when 14 public-spirited
 women were formally installed by national and state officers; and
 WHEREAS, The San Antonio chapter currently has an active
 membership of more than 40, including charter member Doris Horne
 Ellison, who continues to serve her peers as chair of the archives
 committee; Ms. Ellison, along with Link Laura Banks-Reed, has
 attained the organization's Platinum Membership, which is accorded
 only to octogenarians who have served The Links, Incorporated for
 at least three decades; and
 WHEREAS, Through the years, these dedicated Texans and their
 sister Links have given generously of their time and talents to
 support the arts and help area young people; the San Antonio chapter
 has received numerous awards for such notable efforts as a
 mentoring program at Sam Houston High School; moreover, members of
 the chapter have served in leadership roles at area and national
 levels of The Links, Incorporated; and
 WHEREAS, For half a century, the members of the San Antonio
 Chapter of The Links, Incorporated have worked diligently to make
 their community an even better place in which to live, and their
 endeavors have greatly benefited their fellow citizens; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of the San
 Antonio Chapter of The Links, Incorporated and extend to its
 members sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
 further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the chapter as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
