 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Demonstrating great skill and dedication, the
 Garden City High School football team captured the 2010 University
 Interscholastic League Six-Man Division 1 state championship for
 the second year in a row, defeating a tough Throckmorton High School
 squad on December 11, 2010, at Shotwell Stadium in Abilene; and
 WHEREAS, The title game was a clash of unbeaten teams, with
 both the Garden City Bearkats and Throckmorton Greyhounds coming
 into the game with 14-0 records; in front of 9,000 fans, Garden City
 outdueled its opponent by a score of 82-68; offensive most valuable
 player Josh Colunga rushed for 235 yards, crossed the goal line four
 times on runs, and threw for two additional touchdowns; outstanding
 performances were also turned in by Blayne Batla, who threw for
 three scores, Brett Chudej, who scored two touchdowns and
 successfully kicked six conversions, and Ian Schaefer, who caught
 three touchdown passes; and
 WHEREAS, Under the direction of head coach Vance Jones,
 Garden City has lost just one game in the past two seasons and has
 won 29 games in a row, with its last defeat coming at the hands of
 Throckmorton in the opening game of the 2009 season; the Bearkats
 took the 2009 Division 1 state championship with a 122-88 triumph
 over Strawn High School in the title game; and
 WHEREAS, Winning consecutive state championships is a rare
 feat that requires countless hours of hard work and an unwavering
 commitment to excellence, and the members of the Garden City High
 School Bearkats football team may take justifiable pride in their
 exceptional accomplishments on the gridiron; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate the Garden City High School
 football team on winning the 2010 UIL Six-Man Division 1 state
 championship and extend to the players, coaches, and staff sincere
 best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
