 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The Honey Grove High School Beta Club won state
 honors at the Texas Beta Club Convention in Dallas on January 14 and
 15, 2011; and
 WHEREAS, The National Beta Club was founded in 1934 to foster
 in young people academic achievement, character, leadership, and
 service to others; between junior and senior Beta Clubs, the
 organization boasts more than 420,000 active members in over 8,000
 clubs worldwide; and
 WHEREAS, The HGHS Beta Club took home honors in five
 categories; the group won first place in the banner competition
 with its hand-sewn banner illustrating the theme "BETA: A Volunteer
 State of Mind" and also won first place in the scrapbook
 competition, advancing to nationals in that category for the 16th
 consecutive year; and
 WHEREAS, In addition, the club earned two second-place
 awards, one in recognition of the total number of hours that each
 member volunteered in the community and one for its "Leave It to
 Beavers" campaign skit; finally, members finished third in the
 group talent category with their performance of a choral medley
 they called "Peace Out"; and
 WHEREAS, The talented and hardworking members of the Honey
 Grove High School Beta Club have earned distinction for their
 school and their community, and they may indeed take great pride in
 their achievements; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate the Honey Grove High School Beta
 Club on its showing at the 2011 Texas Beta Club Convention and
 extend to the group sincere best wishes for continued success; and,
 be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the HGHS Beta Club as an expression of high regard by
 the Texas House of Representatives.
