 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Janette
 Overton Dixon of San Antonio, who passed away on January 21, 2011,
 at the age of 70; and
 WHEREAS, A native of Palestine, Texas, Janette Overton was
 born on December 5, 1940, to Lily May Morriss and Andrew Jackson
 Overton, Jr.; she earned a bachelor's degree from The University of
 Texas at Austin and subsequently taught geography and history to
 middle school students; and
 WHEREAS, She moved to San Antonio after marrying Don P.
 Dixon, and the couple went on to share 45 rewarding years together;
 they raised two sons, David and Douglas, and later shared in the joy
 of welcoming eight grandchildren into their family; and
 WHEREAS, Strong in her faith, Mrs. Dixon was an active member
 of Castle Hills First Baptist Church in San Antonio, where she
 taught Sunday school, participated in the women's ministry, and
 chaired a Women's Concerns Conference; she also served on a local
 committee for the National Day of Prayer and as an associate board
 member for the Baptist Health System; in addition, she was a
 substitute teacher and volunteer at San Antonio Christian Schools
 and was active for many years in Bible Study Fellowship; and
 WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan was a member of the Daughters of
 the American Revolution and the Alamo Mission Chapter of the
 Daughters of the Republic of Texas, serving that organization in
 numerous capacities, including as education chair; recently, she
 had developed a series of bookmarks for area schoolchildren that
 chronicled the lives of various founders of the Republic of Texas,
 and she was also a co-author of The Alamo Long Barrack Museum,
 published by the DRT; and
 WHEREAS, Though she is deeply missed, Janette Dixon will
 forever be remembered with great admiration and affection by those
 fortunate enough to have shared in the richness of her life; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Janette Overton
 Dixon and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to
 her husband, Don P. Dixon; to her sons, David Patrick Dixon and his
 wife, Tiffany, and Douglas Paul Dixon and his wife, Laura; to her
 brother, Andrew Jackson Overton III and his wife, Patricia; to her
 eight grandchildren; and to her other relatives and friends; and,
 be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Janette
 Dixon.
