No. 502 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The men and women who worked for Lieutenant Governor Bob Bullock were loyal and devoted not only to their employer but also to one another, and that close bond was never more apparent than when Cindy Morphew of Austin stepped forward to donate a lifesaving kidney to Catherine Moore, the wife of a former coworker; and WHEREAS, Cindy Morphew began her career in Mr. Bullock's executive office when he served as Texas comptroller; she went on to work for his reelection campaign in 1982 and with his Legislative Analysis Group; and WHEREAS, When she learned that the wife of John Moore, a former colleague in Mr. Bullock's office, was in need of a kidney transplant, Ms. Morphew readily volunteered to be tested for compatibility; when it was determined that she was a match, the transplant surgery for Catherine Moore was scheduled for September 2010; the operation was put on hold, however, when a mammogram that Ms. Morphew underwent before the surgery indicated Stage 1 cancer cells, and doctors disqualified her as an eligible donor; and WHEREAS, After undergoing a procedure to have the cells removed, Ms. Morphew was still denied the right to donate her kidney; determined to follow through on her promise, she appealed to a physician from the Mayo Clinic, whose conclusion that she was a fitting candidate paved the way for the transplant surgery, which was successfully completed on November 29, 2010; and WHEREAS, Today, Ms. Morphew, who is vice president of an international energy corporation, is back in Austin, putting her formidable drive and determination to work as an advocate for a number of worthy causes during the legislative session; and WHEREAS, Demonstrating remarkable compassion and courage, Cindy Morphew embraced an opportunity to sustain another life, and her selfless actions have made her a hero to many; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby commend Cindy Morphew for her act of extraordinary generosity and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Morphew as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
