H.R. No. 508 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Davis White, a senior at North Lamar High School in Paris, performed with the Honors Band as part of the 2011 American High School Honors Performance Series at the historic Carnegie Hall on February 19, 2011; and WHEREAS, A showcase for the most talented high school musicians and singers in North America, the series offers a select group of students the chance to rehearse and perform together while under the direction of world-renowned conductors; the five-day program culminates in performances of the Honors Orchestra, Honors Band, and Honors Choir for the public and invited representatives from college music departments at Carnegie Hall; and WHEREAS, After a rigorous audition and evaluation process, Mr. White was selected to play French horn with the Honors Band, and he spent February 16-20 in New York City, studying with conductor Jeffrey Grogan and playing music with his peers from across North America; an extremely gifted and dedicated musician, he previously earned first chair All-State French horn while competing in class 4A, a level above his school's 3A classification; he is active in the North Lamar Marching Band, which placed second in the class 3A State Marching Band Contest, and in the symphonic band, which was named the 2010 Texas Music Educators Association 3A State Honor Band; and WHEREAS, In addition to excelling as a musician, this fine young Texan competes on the school swim team; moreover, his stellar academic record has brought him membership in the National Honor Society and the National Beta Club; Mr. White, who is an Eagle Scout, is also a licensed pilot, and after graduation he plans to attend college with the goal of flying professionally; and WHEREAS, Davis White's talent and hard work have placed him among elite high school musical performers, and he can take justifiable pride in his achievements; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Davis White on being selected for the 2011 American High School Honors Performance Series and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Davis White as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
