 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, A delegation from the Western Area of The Links,
 Incorporated, is visiting the State Capitol on February 28, 2011;
 and
 WHEREAS, Founded in 1946, The Links is a volunteer service
 organization for professional women who are committed to enriching
 the culture of African Americans and other persons of African
 ancestry and improving their economic status; it has a membership
 of 12,000 in 274 chapters across the country and in the Commonwealth
 of the Bahamas; and
 WHEREAS, The business and civic leaders, mentors, role
 models, and activists of this nonprofit corporation volunteer more
 than 500,000 hours annually in projects to strengthen their
 communities and make a positive difference in the lives of others;
 through the years, the group has received awards from such
 organizations as the United Nations Association of New York and the
 Leon H. Sullivan Foundation; and
 WHEREAS, The Western Area of The Links includes 2,000 members
 in 55 chapters; these dedicated women work in behalf of children,
 families, and the disadvantaged and support the University of
 California Davis Women's Cardiovascular Medicine Program, the
 Mayme A. Clayton Library and Museum, historically black colleges,
 and Project ALERT (Alzheimer's Link to Education, Research, and
 Treatment); IMAGE/Hip-Hop, another of the important initiatives of
 the Western Area, takes action against negative images of African
 American women in the rap industry; and
 WHEREAS, The dynamic members of The Links have demonstrated
 outstanding leadership and commitment to their communities and
 their nation, setting high standards of civic engagement to which
 others may aspire; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby commend the members of the Western Area of The
 Links, Incorporated, for their exceptional service in behalf of
 others and extend to them sincere best wishes for a memorable and
 meaningful visit to Austin; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
