 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The Carthage High School football team won the 2010
 University Interscholastic League 3A Division 2 state championship
 with a 47-22 victory over Coldspring-Oakhurst High School on
 December 17, 2010; and
 WHEREAS, The win gave Carthage its third consecutive state
 title and furthered its reputation as one of the most successful
 teams in Texas high school football in recent years; and
 WHEREAS, A crowd of 12,370 fans at Cowboys Stadium in
 Arlington saw the Bulldogs battle a talented Coldspring-Oakhurst
 squad and come away with a convincing win that included six
 touchdown passes from the game's offensive most valuable player,
 Anthony Morgan; he connected for scoring strikes with Cortlyn Ware
 and Jalen Claiborne three times each and completed 17 of his 24
 passes for 392 yards; Hunter Holland led the Bulldogs' ground
 attack with 85 yards rushing; and
 WHEREAS, The game was close at halftime, but Carthage blanked
 Coldspring-Oakhurst in the second half while scoring 17 points to
 win by a comfortable margin; on defense, head coach Scott Surratt
 got excellent performances from Edward Pope, Lovis Hall, Josh
 Hamilton, and Xavier Allen; Kendall Thompson was named the
 defensive MVP after making nine tackles and forcing a fumble; Mr.
 Ware was cited as the Right Guard Defensive Player of the Game for
 his six tackles and a forced fumble; and
 WHEREAS, The championship game followed Carthage's thrilling
 semifinal matchup against Brownwood High School; going into that
 contest, the Brownwood Lions were undefeated and had averaged 55
 points per game; the Bulldogs held them to their lowest point total
 of the season en route to a stunning 35-28 victory and the trip to
 Arlington; and
 WHEREAS, With its 2010 title game triumph, Carthage created
 yet another unforgettable moment for its fans; a year earlier, the
 team posted a 13-12 win against Graham High School to claim the
 championship, and in 2008, began the streak with a 49-37 defeat of
 Celina High School in the state final; and
 WHEREAS, Winning three consecutive state championships is a
 rare feat that is the culmination of countless hours of hard work
 and an unwavering commitment to excellence, and these dedicated
 student-athletes may take justifiable pride in their outstanding
 accomplishment; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate the Carthage High School football
 team on winning the UIL 3A Division 2 state championship and extend
 sincere best wishes to the players, coaches, and staff for
 continued success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
