No. 57 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Eleanor Dozier of Kerrville passed away on June 5, 2010, at the age of 85, leaving behind memories of a life well lived to be cherished by her family and friends; and WHEREAS, Born in Ruston, Louisiana, on August 21, 1924, the former Eleanor Ruth Roye was the daughter of Jesse and Carrie Ruth Roye; she moved with her family to West Monroe, where she participated in equestrian shows, played in the marching band at Ouachita Parish High School, and won state awards for her talent as an oboe player; and WHEREAS, She met William E. "Bill" Dozier, Jr., while attending Louisiana Tech University and they married after he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II; while her husband served in the Pacific, Mrs. Dozier drove for officers at the Selman Army Air Field in Monroe, the site of the nation's largest navigation school at that time; and WHEREAS, At war's end, Mr. and Mrs. Dozier made their home in New Orleans, where they became the parents of two beloved daughters, Martha Carolyn and Sarah Rebecca; this devoted mother designed and sewed clothing for her daughters and was a gourmet cook; and WHEREAS, During the 12 years the family lived in Tyler, Mrs. Dozier took an active role in civic affairs as a director of the East Texas Symphony Orchestra, president of the Rosemary Garden Club, and congregant of Marvin United Methodist Church; prompted by Mr. Dozier's newspaper career, the couple next moved to Kerrville, where they were among buyers of the Kerrville Daily Times; Mr. Dozier served as president, publisher, and editor and Mrs. Dozier held the office of secretary-treasurer and worked at the newspaper for 15 years, successfully learning to typeset and sell advertising; together, the Doziers went on to purchase and oversee the production of newspapers in Boerne, Bandera, Pearsall, Dilley, Cotulla, and Leakey; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Dozier's enthusiasm and dedication further benefited her board work at the Hill Country Youth Ranch, the Kerrville Performing Arts Society, and the Riverside Nature Center as well as various endeavors at First United Methodist Church and the Schreiner Oaks Society; and WHEREAS, Gracious, elegant, and intelligent, Eleanor Dozier touched many lives during her time on this earth, and she will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who knew and loved her; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Eleanor Dozier and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her daughter, Rebecca Dozier; to her grandchildren, Matthew Dozier Hunnicutt and his wife, Kelly de Steiger Hunnicutt, Carrie Ruth Hunnicutt, and James Edward Hunnicutt; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Eleanor Dozier.
