 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The University of Texas at San Antonio Day is taking
 place at the State Capitol on March 8, 2011, and this occasion
 provides a welcome opportunity to honor the university and the UTSA
 Alumni Association; and
 WHEREAS, Created by the Texas Legislature in 1969, The
 University of Texas at San Antonio is today a national research
 university with an enrollment of more than 30,000 students in 135
 degree programs; and
 WHEREAS, Alumni of UTSA number more than 82,000; 90 percent
 live in Texas and more than 60 percent reside in or around Bexar
 County; these graduates contribute greatly to the economic
 well-being of this state as they start businesses, become leaders
 in science and technology, teach, and hold a multitude of other
 productive jobs; and
 WHEREAS, Working to further the institution's educational
 mission, the UTSA Alumni Association has awarded more than $850,000
 in scholarships since 1982; the group's endowed scholarship fund,
 now in excess of $1 million, will soon begin granting an additional
 $30,000 in financial assistance annually; and
 WHEREAS, The University of Texas at San Antonio has
 established itself as a preeminent institution of higher education,
 and state residents are fortunate to have access to this
 exceptional resource; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby recognize March 8, 2011, as The University of
 Texas at San Antonio Day at the State Capitol and commend the
 university's alumni association for its long-standing commitment
 to higher education in the Lone Star State; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for The University of Texas at San Antonio Alumni
 Association as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of
 Representatives.
