 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Dorothy L. Stoker-Starks of Dallas has been named an
 Outstanding Community Leader of House District 111 by the Texas
 Legislative Black Caucus; and
 WHEREAS, An accomplished medical professional, Mrs. Starks
 began her career in nursing in 1969 as a trainee at the Veterans
 Affairs Medical Center; today, she continues her work at the VA as a
 certified surgical technologist in neurology and plastic surgery;
 and
 WHEREAS, Mrs. Starks has served on the board of directors of
 the Texas State Assembly, part of the Association of Surgical
 Technologists, which recognized her in 2008 with a Fellowship of
 High Honor; and
 WHEREAS, Through the years, Mrs. Starks has shared her time
 and talents to benefit many residents of North Texas; in addition to
 feeding the homeless at the Martin Luther King, Jr., Community
 Center, she has helped sponsor a local health fair, mentored young
 women, supported the American Cancer Society, and assisted families
 at the Ronald McDonald House; and
 WHEREAS, Mrs. Starks has also given back as a member of the T.
 Mathis Hawkins Section of the National Council of Negro Women; she
 has served as president of the group and worked in behalf of a
 number of its important programs, including initiatives to uplift
 families in need and to promote health and fitness; and
 WHEREAS, An active member of the Alta Mesa Park Baptist
 Church, Mrs. Starks serves as president of the General Mission and
 assists with all of the congregation's ministries; she has also led
 the Greater Dallas Area Sisterhood of the Missionary Baptist
 General Convention of Texas as president and parliamentarian; and
 WHEREAS, Dorothy Starks has contributed to her fellow
 citizens through a lifetime of purposeful endeavor, and in so
 doing, she has set an inspiring example of compassion and
 generosity toward others; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 82nd Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Dorothy L. Stoker-Starks on her
 selection as an Outstanding Community Leader of House District 111
 by the Texas Legislative Black Caucus and extend to her sincere best
 wishes for continued success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mrs. Starks as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
